Jamie Upchurch, MSN, RN, NE-BC serves as the Women Veterans Program Manager for the Durham VA Healthcare System which includes the Durham Medical Center, Greenville Health Care Center, and 6 Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). In this role, she oversees the delivery of healthcare and services to more than 8,000 women Veterans. She is directly involved in program management, strategic planning, and policy development and ensures women Veterans are afforded timely access to high quality care.
Mrs. Upchurch received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from East Carolina University in 2003 and continued her education at Liberty University where she received a Master of Science in Nursing degree with a concentration in Nursing Administration. Mrs. Upchurch is a Board-Certified Nurse Executive and is a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt. She has a long-standing commitment to performance improvement which is reflected in her work. Since entering the WVPM role in 2017, Mrs. Upchurch has implemented a real time clinical surveillance program to automatically track Maternity Care, Breast Cancer Screening, and Cervical Cancer Screening to ensure appropriate follow up. She also developed a local Invitro Fertilization Interdisciplinary Team that has helped to streamline care coordination. To expand Women’s Health education, she led a national workgroup in collaboration with Senior Women’s Health Consultants to develop the first National Women’s Health Emergency Care Mini-Residency for Nurses and developed site specific training for Durham VA staff.
As the Women Veterans Program Manager, Ms. Upchurch serves as an advocate for women Veterans and remains committed to ensuring Women Veterans get the right care at the right time in a safe, secure, and respectful environment.
